It's Time for Spring Gardening!

April is the perfect month to start working on your lawn and garden! The weather is warming up and the sunlight is lasting longer each day. If you haven’t already started working on your garden, now is the time!

If you have a flower bed in your yard, most annual bedding plants, perennials, and annual flower seeds can be planted after the danger of frost. Here in Amarillo, the last spring frost is estimated to be around the middle of April, but we all know that weather can be unpredictable!

For that outdoor garden, now is the perfect time to start preparing your soil! Mix in compost to give your soil natural, nutrient-dense fertilizer to help your produce grow strong! If you haven’t already, now is the time to start your tender produce indoors. After April 15, you can set out these tender plants to prep them for life in the outdoors.

For landscaping, it’s important to take care of your flowering plants, trees, shrubs, annual and perennial plants. Many flowering plants start to bloom in April. To keep your blooms coming back strong, prune your spring flowering plants as soon as they are finished blooming. When planting trees, shrubs, and perennial plants, apply a fertilizer or root stimulator to help get those roots established. Remember, the proper watering of newly planted trees and shrubs determines the success of your new plants.

For any additional information to keep your lawn and garden, check in with your local greenhouse. They are experienced in growing in the area and will have instructions and tips for maintaining a healthy, growing landscape and garden!
